Made-to-Order Babies?
Dr. Albert Mohler is a great source of wisdom and worldview for believers. He posted an article about the arrival of the age of “Designer Babies”. It is unthinkable that we could look at the Imago Dei, the image of God in man, and decide that even here, we would rather mar His beauty and enthrone our self-love by attempting to outsmart Providence. I fear that we will suffer consequences even Dr. Frankenstein couldn’t have stomached. Ethically speaking, we are crossing into creating men in our own image, instead of God’s. I’ll let Dr. Mohler do the work of clarification, but I do want to commend to you Ethics for a Brave New World by Feinberg & Feinberg which has a lengthy chapter (Ch. 10) on this topic and the moral/ethical dilemmas incumbent with them.
Dr. Mohler does give a helpful quote that serves to jolt us back to reality as we think on these things. Fallen man has no business enthroning himself as deity and creator & destroyer of life:
We have seen this logic before, but we appear to have missed the moral lesson. We can only imagine what the scientists of the Nazi regime would have done with this technology.
The brave new world of designer babies is about to be upon us. We will soon learn what, in moral terms, we really believe about human dignity and the value of human life.

That is kinda creepy… I don’t think designer babies will work, though. I mean, you can’t really return them.
