Inaugural Benediction

While I fully understand that the prayers offered at yesterday’s inauguration were pro forma and as much political theater as Supreme Court nominations are, I was tickled by the benediction. Particularly this bit of rhyme and meter at the end of Rev. Lowery’s prayer:

“….help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right…Let all who do justice and love mercy say amen and say amen.”

It sort of snuck up on me and made me smile. But, for the sake of theological purity, be sure to check out this AMAZING prayer voiced yesterday by Dr. Albert Mohler for our incoming administration.
